Monkstown Golf Club
Monkstown Golf Club is very conveniently located; just ten minutes drive from both Cork Airport and the city centre. It has an illustrious history and is set in a unique place overlooking Cork's glorious harbor.
The distant past of the course can be seen in the ruins of the old castle which was used as a clubhouse till it was no longer habitable and gave way to the new clubhouse.
The initial nine holes of the course take the golfer to the top of the hill, and you can soak in the magnificent view of the extensive River Lee and Cork's busy lower harbor.
It is worth stopping and enjoying the ambience of the course which also has the view of the historic port of Cobh and the island of Haulbowline (which is an Irish Naval base).
The opulence of the site is highlighted by the numerous old trees which are an important part in defining the fairways and also give a good reason to the golfer to advance with a degree of watchfulness.
Golfers of all levels will find the course testing; you will probably use every club in the bag, but also a very enjoyable round.
