Gort Golf Club
Gort Golf Club has quite a history, having been moved from two previous sites due to flooding and inability to grow memberships.
The current course, which opened in 1996, is located on 160 acres of parkland at Castlequarter.
There is plenty of beauty surrounding this course, including the Slieve Aughty Mountains, Coole Park, Clare Hills, the Burren, and the castle itself.
Also, one can visit nearby Kilmacduagh, which is a monastic settlement.
The course was designed by Christy O’ Connor, Jr. a star from previous Ryder Cup matches, who claims the Par 3s on Gort are some of the best in the country.
Many other seasoned golfers agree and add that this is one of his greatest designs.
It is magnificent, from the beauty of the natural layout which is carved through waterways and Burren stone, to the modern club house with its excellent views of the course and surroundings.
