The K Club
The K Club is located in the little village of Straffan, 20 miles west of Dublin. Th countryside here is horse and farm country and the land is flat with fresh air and mountains.
There are two golf courses designed by Arnold Palmer at the 330 acre estate; the Palmer course and the Smurfit courses.
It is one of the premier Golf clubs of Ireland and both the courses are of championship standard.
It is designed amidst the premises of the luxurious Kildare Hotel and Country Club.
Smurfit Course
The Smurfit opened for play in 1995 and many top tournaments on the European Tour have been played here.
The course suffered a lot of damage due to rains and a sophisticated drainage system has been installed to eradicate the problem.
It is an inland links course with numerous vantage points for spectators to view the Golf Professional at play.
Palmer Course
Palmer course reflects the personality of its designer in a true sense.
It was Ireland’s first Ryder Cup Venue and no doubt the most spectacular course in Europe.
It is a little strange to describe a golf course as fascinating and arrogant but from the time you come to the first tee, you are surrounded by an inimitable ambience.
The K club is a fantastic place to visit not just because of the courses and the Ryder Cup history but the surrounding scenery.
