"Our society loved playing in Portugal. It was a great trip and one we will be doing again. We played some beautiful courses and the hotel was fantastic."

About Portugal

The Following is more information on the Algarve, Portugal its towns and villages.

Albuferia

Albufeira is famed above all for its beaches where the sand is fine and the sea a turquoise blue, sheltered by cliffs renowned for the shades and tones that make them appear like painted canvasses.

Despite this the narrow streets and whitewashed houses of this old fishing village perched over a charming beach filled with colourful decorated fishing boats must not be ignored. The village has many features of historical interest, from the buildings which still preserve the Moorish arches to the interesting churches and old castle.

For the less historically minded shops, bars and restaurants fill every corner.
However, nightlife, sunshine and beaches are just some of the features of Albufeira. Sports are also an excellent reason to come and stay with a wide range on offer including golf, tennis and watersports all of which are designed to entertain even the most demanding sportsmen and women.

For those travellers’ wanting a quieter holiday, there is another experience on offer just a few miles inland where everything changes. This is an experience rooted in the tranquility of nature surrounded by green and peaceful countryside dotted with fruit trees of every description where the ochre of tiled roofs can be seen nestling in the landscape.

Albufeira makes a fantastic holiday destination offering something for all and the best of both worlds, day and night.

Vilamoura

Unlike many other Algarve resorts, Vilamoura is a purpose built, modern resort where everything has been designed with your pleasure in mind.

Vilamoura offers something for everyone: a place for rest and relaxation but also for pursuing active pastimes and sports; a friendly and safe residential haven, but also a vibrant and exciting night-life centre. Vilamoura is especially popular with sports enthusiasts due to its excellent facilities. With a wide range of high standard accommodation on offer this is a place to suit any need.

Designed to be self sufficient the resort is able to cater for everyday needs and is bursting with sporting and leisure facilities for all members of the family.

The Marina is huge and home to some very glamorous boats which can be admired from the waterfront, which is great for wandering around day or night. Either side of the marina are sandy beaches with several cafes and bars. A number of boats run excursions along the coast towards Lagos and beyond and if you’re interested big game fishing is also on the cards.

There is also a Casino, where those after a flutter can play American roulette, French roulette, Portuguese dice, Black Jack or slot machines. There are also nightly cabaret shows, a nightclub and a cinema.

For those looking to relax and enjoy the local landscapes Falésia is ideal for a day on the beach with its unusual red coloured cliffs as a backdrop. Also close at hand is Olhos de Água, surrounded on three sides by pine-clad cliffs.

Vilamoura is a special place, a unique leisure and recreation resort where the pace of life is so easy it feels like summer all year round making it a very popular destination for families seeking stress-free fun.

You are guaranteed to be revitalized by the lifestyle and convenience of this special place.

Lagos

Standing on a small hill surrounded by vineyards with its white houses gleaming in the sunlight this peaceful town is in stark contrast to the tourist centers on the coast.

However the beaches around Lagos are some of the most beautiful of the Algarve, like Praia de Dona Ana, which can be reached after a 25 minutes walk from the center of the town, Praia do Camilo, a bit further on, and Meia Praia, whose sands stretch for 4 km (2.5 miles) east of Lagos.

Despite this, it is the promontory named Ponta da Piedade and sheltering the bay of Lagos which is most admired by visitors, with its caves, rocks and wonderfully transparent waters.

Nearby Carvoeiro, with its charming sandy cove, is an old fishing village which became a popular holiday resort. A fine new marina welcomes boats sailing in from the Atlantic

Portimao

With the cosmopolitan atmosphere of an international tourist destination Portimao offers the blue sea with its gently lapping waves and the fine golden sands framed by cliffs and rocks of beach holidays in the sun. However, there is more to Portimão and its municipality than just beaches.

There is also a rich heritage of historical monuments: the Colégio Church, the Town Hall, the renowned Praia da Rocha (with its Santa Catarina de Ribamar Fortress), and the Roman ruins of Abicada. For the less historically minded there is also the eternal natural beauty of the Ria de Alvor; the charm of cultivated fields, of slopes covered with pine trees and wild flowers; the allure of walking up into the hills and looking down on the Algarve from a new perspective.

Portimão is one of the main big game centres in the Algarve, offering the chance to catch fighting swordfish and other big fish. There are also facilities for sailing, hind-surfing, para-sailing water-skiing and scuba diving

Tavira

Surrounded by beautiful beaches of golden sand and turquoise blue seas that seem to go on forever , wide ranges of hills carpeted in glorious wild flowers and luscious countryside full of orchards, heavy with the scent of blossom, this picturesque town offers a beautiful view over the Gilão river and its Roman bridge. Tavira is one of the most architecturally attractive towns in the Algarve with origins dating back to around 2.000 BC.

However, like most of the Algarve its buildings were all virtually destroyed by the earthquake of 1755. The town has since been rebuilt with many fine 18th Century fine buildings along with its 37 churches.

If you are browsing along the Travessa de Dona Brites, you will see beautiful medieval houses, with Gothic windows and portals. In the suburbs, in the small village of Luz there is a Renaissance church, which has been a pilgrimage place for many centuries.
